Metropolis - Masters in Architecture and Urban Culture - CCCB Barcelona

Metropolis, a pedagogy that positions the body at the intersection of photography, performance, and spatial architecture within public space.

The following photographic projects document a series of artistic activities that capture the visual diversity of initiatives in London and in various European cities. I challenge my students to perform in the public space, and by working in pairs or groups to create new visual metaphors and representations of what it means to be a body in the contemporary city. This is a unique approach that allows students to break new ground and explore techniques that bring together performance, movement and architectural photography.

The photographs shown here are from Photography as Mapping, a course I taught each year from 2003 until 2013 for the Metropolis Masters Programme in Architecture and Urban Culture, in collaboration with architect and university lecturer Suzanne Strum, working with the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) and IDEC / Universitat Pompeu Fabra.
